After participating in personal finance carnivals for just a few short weeks of, my post How home affordability has changed now that the boom is over was selected one of the top 7 posts of the week (out of 75+ that were featured)  The host, Quest for Four Pillars is a Canadian and so he did a Canadian theme.

You:  Do you think you were selected because of all that time you spent in Canada?

How did you know– No, I don’t think so.  But I am as grateful to the carnival’s host, as I was to the kind folks that hosted me on my wife and I on our honeymoon just a few (okay several) years back.

For other great personal finance reads, check out How to Use Variable Annuities the Right Way by the Amateur Asset Allocator, who does a great job of simplifying an area of personal finance (annuities) where confusion is Gary’s best friend.  Of course, I can be even more succinct: Stay away.  You have better options.

Gary:  Son of a –

It isn’t just me, Gary.  Go ahead, you check out the post yourself.   Heck read the whole carnival. You’ve got plenty to unlearn.

Thanks for the link – that honeymoon place looks pretty nice but a bit pricey.

Of course, I guess if you went a few years back then our dollar was at a huge discount so it might not have seemed too expensive.

Indeed, it was as though the entire vacation was 1/3 off due to the relative strength of the US dollar. And while Dalvay was certainly the nicest (and most expensive) place we stayed on our honeymoon, we selected the cheapest room there. You still get the same access to the resort and identical meals, but you spend a fair bit less. Besides, if there’s one place I was okay spending a bit more than ordinary, it was on our honeymoon. As planned, that still looks like one of the few genuinely “once in a lifetime” experiences.
