Privacy at totalcandor.com

Total Candor has created this statement in order to demonstrate our firm commitment to privacy. We allow our users to control the amount of personal information they provide to us. Total Candor hopes that users will feel comfortable providing this information to us, because this information allows us to tailor our offerings to each user’s particular interests. However, we recognize that some users will prefer not to provide certain requested information, so we’ve designed totalcandor.com with the users’ personal preferences in mind.

Information We Collect and How We Use It

Membership Registration. Our registration process requires users to provide personal information, such as first name, last name, e-mail address, zip code and date of birth in order to register at totalcandor.com.  Users may provide additional demographic information (i.e. income, marital status, gender and number of children). The additional information is not required to become a registered user, but many users choose to supply the information so that they receive advertisements and information that match their interests and demographics.  Except as otherwise stated herein, totalcandor.com will not knowingly share your individual information with third parties without your authorization or consent.  totalcandor.com uses the personal information in the following ways:

1.    We provide users with content, including suggestions, tips and strategies, which can be in the form of electronic media, such as email, e-newsletters, postings, podcasts and links, or paper-based media, such as newsletters and books.

2.     We contact users for feedback and surveys.

3.     We provide registered users with unique opportunities to register for workshops, lectures, promotions, and the like.

Profile Data. We use profile data collected through the registration process described above and through voluntary actions of registered users of the totalcandor.com service, such as participation in surveys consisting of requests for demographic information, to provide registered users with a personalized experience. This information allows us to provide such users with specific content based on indicated interests and preferences.  Using certain totalcandor.com services does not require registration, and users may provide as much or as little information as they choose. However, the omission of certain information may limit the value of the totalcandor.com experience for the user.

Message Center.  The totalcandor.com Message Center is a site feature used to inform members of internet-based promotions, offers and notices. Members may access the Message Center by logging in to their account at totalcandor.com. Message content, including information provided through RSS feeds, is based on preferences indicated at initial user registration as well as activity-based actions.  Registered users may choose to be notified by email of the posting of new messages in the Message Center or may opt-out of Message Center email notification.

Tracking Activity On Our Website

In order to make your visit to our website as productive as possible, we track activity on our website. However, we want you to know that the tracking technology we use does not identify any personal information about you. We cannot retrieve data from your hard drive, pass on computer viruses, or capture any personal information about you, such as your name, address, phone number, or e-mail address. We only know who you are if you tell us. You may, however, be asked to provide personal information such as name, address, phone number or e-mail address to us when you register for online services or products.

1.    Cookies: One way we track activity is by using cookies. A “cookie” is an electronic file that holds small strings of text. When you visit our website, we send a cookie to your browser so that we can recognize it when you or another user of your computer return to our website. We want to recognize your browser so we can make the best use of your time when visiting our website. For example, when you visit the membership area of our website, we present an introductory page to all new users. The fact that you have already visited the introductory page is recorded in a cookie so you won’t see the introductory page again. For your security, if you are a registered user of totalcandor.com, we cannot give you access to your account information on our website unless your browser is set to accept cookies from us.

2.     Advertising: When you visit our website by clicking on certain banner ads or special offers on our partners’ websites, we track this information to improve navigation and deliver relevant information when you arrive at our website. We also do this because we want to determine if our ads and special offers are appealing to our users.

3.     Browser settings: You can adjust many browser preferences so that you are alerted when a cookie is placed in your browser, or adjust preferences to decline cookies altogether. Recognize that cookies enable you to visit our website without reviewing introductory information. In addition to allowing us to recognize you, cookies also enable us to securely provide our registered users with account information.

How We Use Your Email Address

We recognize that e-mail can be the preferred mode of communication for some of our website users. If you provide us with your e-mail address, we may use it to contact you with e-mail messages, such as those related to:

  • Regularly scheduled e-mail newsletters related to Total Candor;

  • Workshop registration confirmation;

  • Optional e-mail communications for which you have signed up (e.g. newsletters on a selected financial topic); or

  • Valuable offers from non-affiliated companies that we send you on their behalf.

Also, once you have requested information from us, we may communicate with you via e-mail regarding your request to provide additional information related to your initial information request.  However, we will never ask you to send personal information such as account or Social Security numbers by non-secure e-mail.  To make our e-mail offers more relevant to you, we may use information you provided in your transactions with us or from information available from external sources, such as census bureau data.  We do not share your e-mail address with non-affiliated companies for them to market their products or services directly to you.  However, we may partner with selected non-affiliated companies to offer certain products or services we believe may be of interest to you.  If you opt out of receiving email from Total Candor, we will process and honor your request as soon as administratively possible. In certain circumstances, you may receive e-mail from Total Candor during the time period when we are processing your opt-out request.

Log Files

Log files are generated on all websites on the Internet, including totalcandor.com. These files are set according to the standards for HTTPD web server technology as described by the standards organization, W3C (World Wide Web Consortium).  These Log files contain ‘clickstream information’ (i.e. transactions about the web pages viewed during a session, including the originating website/web page, navigation to another website/web page, the type of browser used, date/time, and success status of the server transaction).  Links between pages are described using a URL (Universal Resource Locator) address, http://www.totalcandor.com.  Each page viewed has a unique address that is recorded as a transaction in the server log.  Transactions about all pages viewed on totalcandor.com are analyzed to administer the website and to count visits to a page. Our website design uses log transactions to optimize site navigation and to gather broad demographic information for aggregate use.  We do not link these IP addresses to personally identifiable information.  We maintain these log files solely for our own internal purposes, and they are not shared with third parties, except to prevent abuse or fraud.
